Retain and use the original camera photos in your events
RightBooth provides lots of features to allow you to modify the photos that are captured during the event. Modifications include applying enhancements, filters, AI photo effects and adding overlays.
If you use photo modifications in your event, the original, unmodified files are then replaced with the modified versions, so it is the modified versions that are saved on the computer, and the original files are normally not retained.
The modified photos are then used on event screens and on the print layout. But what if you want to preserve the original photos and/or include them in your events? This article explains how.
1 - Keep Original Files
The first thing you must do is tick the setting 'Keep original files' in the photo section of your chosen camera.
Here we are keeping the original webcam photos:

By ticking this setting, RightBooth will automatically save the original photos in a sub folder of your chosen event folder.
2 - Use an Image Item to show the original photo
Note: The feature explained in this section requires RightBooth version 7.16.4 or later
Now that the original photos are being retained on your computer, you can add another image item onto your event screens that will show the original photos. This is achieved using the event variable {CURRENTORIGINALPATHPHOTOFILENAME} as follows:
In this example, we are adding an original photo item onto the 'Show photo' event screen:
2 - Use an Image Item to show the original photo
Note: The feature explained in this section requires RightBooth version 7.16.4 or later
Now that the original photos are being retained on your computer, you can add another image item onto your event screens that will show the original photos. This is achieved using the event variable {CURRENTORIGINALPATHPHOTOFILENAME} as follows:
- Choose the event screen that you want to show the original photo. Note this can also be the Print layout screen.
- Add an image item onto the screen.
- On the image item properties toolbox, set the image item Content type to 'Define file'
- Click the Content button.
- Add the text {CURRENTORIGINALPATHPHOTOFILENAME} into the Define file text box.
- Now when you play the event, the image item will display the original photo
