Designing an Event on One Computer, Playing it on Another

Updated: Feb 2021

So you have one computer that you want to use for designing your RightBooth events, (lets call this the Design PC) and then you want to run (or play) your events on a second computer (we'll call this the Play PC).  This article explains everything you need to consider to allow this to happen without any problems.

Alternatively: Transferring events from one PC to another is made easy using the Event Packager.

Set up

  • Make sure both computers are configured to run the same display resolution and text size.  Refer to your computer display settings for more information.
  • Install RightBooth on both computers.
  • Install the RightBooth Media Library on both computers.

Design considerations

It is important to understand that when you include any image files, video files or audio files in your event designs on the Design PC, these files will not be included in the saved event file.  What is saved are the paths and filenames of your chosen files and not the actual files themselves.  So for example, let's say you create an event for a wedding and you include the following image (from your Design PC) on the Start screen of your event:

C:\images\wedding\cut-cake.png

If you now copy the wedding event file to the Play PC, when you run the event the 'cut-cake' image will not appear on the Start screen.  This is because the cut-cake file has not been copied to the Play PC.  To make this file appear, you must also copy the cut-cake file to the Play PC and also make sure it is placed in the same folder, which in this example is: 'C:\images\wedding'

Including Files From the RightBooth Media Library
If you add files from the Media Library into your event designs, you will find that these files will not require copying to the Play PC because both computers already have the Media Library pre-installed (see Set up above).

So the general rule of thumb is that if you include files from the Design PC that are not part of the Media Library, you should ensure that these are copied to the same folders on the Play PC.

Once you have ensured both computers have exact copies of all the referenced files, you can then simply copy the event file from the Design PC to the Play PC after making any design changes.

TIP: You may want to always include files in your events that are taken from the RightBooth Media Library.    You will find the RightBooth Media Library folder structure here:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\RightBooth7 Library

Where to put the event files

By default, your RightBooth event files are saved in the Windows folder:

Documents\RightBooth7

RightBooth files are saved using the file extension: .rbe which stands for RightBooth Event.
So in the example above, the file would be named  wedding.rbe

Simply copy your event files into the same folder on the Play PC.

Using the Same RightBooth Settings

You may want to also ensure both computers use the same RightBooth settings.  Rightbooth settings are saved in the file:

C:\Users\your_name\AppData\Local\RightBooth

Simply copy this file to the same folder on the Play PC to ensure both computers use the same RightBooth settings.
