- Work your way through the Wizard to create your karaoke event
OK. That's a simple karaoke event designed !!
Return to the RightBooth Main window, save your new event file (naming it karaoke), then click the Play button.
You can now choose a karaoke song, sing to the lyrics as they appear on screen and have it recorded by RightBooth. Easy !!
Obtaining More Karaoke Files
RightBooth provides a small selection of karaoke video files for you to include in your events, but you'll probably want more. The karaoke files included with RightBooth have been kindly provided to us by the folks at www.karaoke-version.com for distribution.
They have lots of tracks available at very reasonable prices so we suggest you visit their site if you require more files.
And remember to obtain the WMV format when purchasing karaoke files.
When you receive your new files, you should add them into the RightBooth Karaoke Library folder here:
c:\users\public\public documents\rightbooth7 library\videos\karaoke\
By doing this your new files will be available for inclusion in the karaoke grid on the Choose karaoke screen, accessed in the Screen Designer.

Setting up Your Equipment
There are essentially three ways that you can set up your equipment for karaoke video and audio recording.
Method 1 – Webcam and speakers
The simplest way to achieve karaoke recording is to allow the instrumental from the karaoke file to be played out from the PC via some speakers plugged into the PC. You can then allow this music to be captured (along with the user's singing) by the microphone on the webcam, or using a separate microphone attached to the PC sound card microphone input.
This simply requires you to position the speakers in front of the microphone, possibly at either side of the singer, so that the microphone will pick up both the users voice and the karaoke instrumental playing out of the speakers.
Method 2 – Webcam and mixer
You may wish to record a clean instrumental track that is mixed in with the user’s voice. For this you should obtain a cheap karaoke mixer unit that will let you plug in one or more microphones and also take the line out from your PC sound card (containing the karaoke file instrumental), then connect the output from the mixer to the line input (or microphone input) of your PC sound card. This mixed audio will then become the audio track on webcam video recording.
Using a karaoke mixer will allow you to set the audio levels for both the microphone and instrumental, and should give you a better quality sound than method 1. There are many karaoke mixers available, for as little at $20. If you want to use a different microphone when recording karaoke videos you can enable this in Audio Settings.
For more information on how to achieve karaoke recording using a audio mixer, take a look at this How To article.
Method 3 – DSLR Camera and speakers
If you have set up RightBooth to use a DSLR camera for recording videos then you must use the microphone on the camera for all audio recording, so the karaoke backing music must be played out of speakers attached to the PC, thereby allowing the DSLR camera's microphone to record the karaoke music along with your singing voice.
