Update: 06/11/20 RightBooth v7.5.19 (or later) now allows greenscreen features to work with:
- webcams for both photo capture and video recording.
- DSLR cameras for photo capture.
To begin with it is essential that you find a location that has consistent, even lighting.
In our example we have set up the equipment in a room without windows. You can see we have attached a green cloth to the wall, with a seat in front for the subject, and we've placed the computer monitor and a webcam on a table approximately 3 feet from the cloth. |
Note that the greenscreen background removal works best with a plain green cloth, but the background can actually be a static view of any coloured surface such as a painted wall, but in all cases, you should choose a background that is not going to move or change, and has either a single colour or a limited range of colours that are unlikely to match your foreground subjects clothing and skin tones .
Also, it is important not to cast any shadows on the background surface (or to cast minimal shadows). Notice we have attached a bright light to the back of the monitor. This is the only lighting in the room and because it is not pointing toward the subject or the background surface you can see that the user is not casting a shadow on the green cloth.
For best results we do recommend using a green screen background cloth and a suitable lighting rig. See Other Equipment
Once you have set up your environment you need to configure RightBooth settings which can be found in:
RightBooth --> Settings --> Overlays/Props --> Green screen
RightBooth's green screen feature works by capturing one or more reference images of the background material, prior to running the event. You need to capture one reference image for each type of recording you are going to make during the event. For example if you are going to be recording greenscreen videos with a webcam then you need to capture a reference image that RightBooth can use during webcam video recordings.

In our example we are going to use greenscreen backgrounds when taking photos with the webcam so in this screenshot we've selected the option:
Green screen for webcam photo capture We have then captured a reference image of the cloth, (without the subject in the shot) by clicking the Capture reference image button. Notice that the cloth completely fills the camera's view. |
Click the Testing check box to turn on the green screen background replacement feature.
You can choose a sample background image from the Media Library to help with your set-up by clicking the Background button. Then alter the Filter settings until you achieve satisfactory replacement of the green background for the sample image. |
Tip: Try to achieve good image replacement using only the Colour filter as this offers the best performance, especially when recording video. The Edge, Noise and Shadow filters provide enhanced background replacement but may affect the frame rate of webcam greenscreen video recordings. Leave these filters at 0 to avoid using them.
When you click the OK button, all the greenscreen settings and your current reference images will be saved and used in your green screen enabled events.

Here we show a screen from an event that has been configured to allow the user to select a different background image for each of their photos.
The user clicks on one of the images from the selection before each photo is taken. Read this article to learn how to add this screen to your events. |
Remember
The RightBooth green screen feature works best when the captured reference images are up to date. By this, we mean:
Whenever you change your equipment, your video settings (such as camera exposure, direction, focus, gain, capture frame size), room lighting or location, you will need to perform this green screen set-up again, ensuring that your reference images accurately reflect the current environment.
